Celebrating Every Drop!

Who is an IBCLC anyway?

Breastfeeding my first child was not easy.  In fact, everything that could go wrong, did go wrong.  He just wouldn't nurse from me, and right from the start too.  So I pumped exclusively and hoped that he would come around.  At 2 months and 1 day, he did! And it was everything I wanted it to be! Looking back I can see that it was just his way.  Turning up the pressure will shut him down; nurturing a calm environment invites him in. It's crazy to think these newborn babies know exactly what they are doing, but they do!

I wanted to help others feel the same sense of accomplishment, so I became a La Leche League Leader in 2007. This international, all volunteer, mother-to-mother support group helped me find my calling.   Since then I have helped hundreds of women breastfeed their babies, over the phone and email and in person too.  In 2013, I certified as a Lactation Counselor (CLC) and began to collect the necessary requirements for sitting for the IBCLC exam.  In 2014, I passed the IBCLC exam and received my credential!  Now that my own babies are grown up a bit, I can earn a living doing what I love.  It really doesn't get any better than that!

Whether you have known me a lifetime or if we have just met, most folks would say that I am kind and gentle and ooze TLC.  It's just my way and it works for me.  But I am also cautious and will not hesitate to tell you if something concerns me.  I want what is best for mother, baby, and the breastfeeding relationship, in the short term and over the long haul.  I weigh heavily what mothers' intuition tells me and use evidence based practices to guide my advice.  Ultimately, I am a consultant who gives information for mothers to use in their decisions.
